UNC CBE Summit 2017: CBE Uses a Different Lens to Measure Student Learning

The team at Sagence Learning looks forward to meeting with you at the UNC CBE SUMMIT 2017 on May 25th in Chapel Hill. Leading educators and policy makers will be gathering to plan and lead the continued support of colleges and universities who believe in meeting the specific needs of all students. 

Competency-based education (CBE) models are focused around the student, not around the academic calendar. Like-minded colleagues and peers will share strategies and success stories about the business processes and curricular redesigns that support more flexible educational programs. CBE degree programs and certificates are organized around student mastery of content knowledge—and this becomes the crux of the change for business processes. 

Highlighting 16 concurrent sessions, Sandbox ColLABorative Executive Director Dr. Michelle Weise (co-author, Hire Education) will present the opening keynote. Also, always informative, insightful, and entertaining CBEN (CBE Network) Executive Director Charla Long will return again this year for a lunchtime keynote presentation. Representatives from the Southeast CBE Regional Innovation Partnership (SCRIP) funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, will release results of a year-long effort to identify CBE substantive change issues with SACS-COC, arriving at a common language for CBE discussions. UNC will publish pre-conference information under the hashtag #CBE2017, and UNC Press will publish post-conference proceedings as both an open access digital product and a downloadable PDF.
